James Herriott Country...

Thirsk is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales, where Al Wight's practice was actually based...

The museum was set up in the actual building that the practice was in until the 1980's...

It has been restored to how it would have looked in the 1930's and 40's...

I enjoyed seeing all the strange old medicines in the pharmacy closet...

The kids area was great, and Charlie liked everything but this cow.  He seemed to think it was just too big...

Will tried to remove all the bad things this dog had swallowed...

They had some equipment related to the war, and Will loved trying on the gas masks...

I was clearly having far too much fun testing if I was strong enough to birth this calf...

Charlie was busy checking out the chicks...
My family have always been big fans of James Herriot (who was actually Alfred Wight).  PBS used to have a show "All Creatures Great and Small" that was based on the series of books.  We have all read them and I remember seeing the shows often as a little kid.  I have the series of children's books as well, which are all very sweet.  So, when we found out we were going to Yorkshire, it was only natural that we go to James Herriot World!  We loved driving around the hills too, knowing that on his rounds as a vet, he too would have been riding around these same tiny roads.  After we finished up here, we headed on into the Dales to Bolton Castle....
