To Leash or Not To Leash?

I have always thought baby leashes were demeaning. And then I lost Pudd. Now they seem like a great idea! Now he is walking, and walking fast! He walked one way around a display at Barnes and Noble, I walked the other to cut him off at the pass, and when I came around, HE WAS GONE! I immediately felt panic! He's cute! He's little! He's friendly! Anyone would love to take him! He usually walks from one end of the kids area, by the trains, to the stage area. So as I came around I expected him to be going toward the stage, but he used his new found motion to turn and start up the main aisle out of the store! Thankfully I saw him in less than a minute, but it was the longest minute of my life! So now, how do I keep tabs on him? Keep him in the stroller, force hand holding, the dreaded leash? What do you think?

I am a big hand holder or back into the stroller you go type of person. But that is just what works for me. I don't really see a whole lot wrong with the leash thing especially if you have a kid that likes to wander. I have had a few panicky moments myself. Usually that is when they go back into the stroller. Or I march out of the store frustrated at them for being a wandering 1 year old and myself for being so easily distracted!

Patrick is totally against the leash so we have never had one. I don't think they are a bad idea. I've wished I had one with Sophie a few times because I have more kids than hands but I haven't actually lost anyone yet! There are some cute ones that look like animal backpacks which is WAAAAY better than the one my mom had that looked like a cross between a little german boys suspenders and a harness!

Get the leash. We had one and our Mommy knows where we are at. Also, now you can get cute backpack types of monkies and puppies etc. You love your child and a leash lets him explore and stay safe. There are too many scary people in the world who would take a child if the opportunity arises. If the leash was good enough for us, it is good enough for Pudd.

Bridget- We had that weird one that was like Liederhosen too! Haha! I think the back pack ones look cute too. Jason isn't a big fan either, but I think it could be useful. I think I will put one in the stroller and give it a try at some point. I will let you know how it works out! The stroller is NOT popular these days, the minute we get somewhere inside he wants out immediately!

I think leash are fine for certain situation. All in all you do need to train kids to be close to you at all times, but obviously that is hard to do in every circumstance.

Also after reading everyone's comments.. and talking to people about this myself. I have concluded men think they are stupid but us mom's think they may just be the key to our sanity sometimes!
