Barbie...

I recieved Peaches and Cream Barbie for my 7th Birthday!

Why does Barbie elicit such controversy? Moms either love her or hate her. I for one LOVE her. I played for hours and hours with them. I did their hair, cut their hair, painted their nails, dressed them over and over, and drove them around the house and yard in a pink convertible. I never thought my body should look like hers, she has feet permanently in the shape of a high heel, and a waist to hip ratio that wouldn't let her stand if she was real. She also didn't resemble any real woman I have ever seen. So the poor body image argument is lost on me. I had Strawberry Shortcake too, but I never thought my head should be 4 times the size of my body and smell like fruit! I loved all Barbie's accessories, and Ken's lame hair and tacky Cabana wear. I loved Skipper and her preteen clothes. These simple dolls offered my sisters and I literally hundreds of hours of fun! Now, granted as we grew up my friends and I used to put Ken and Barbie in bed together after a hot date, but Ken's underwear was molded on so nothing actually happened! If and or When I have a daughter I will gladly haul out all my Barbie stuff and happily sit down and comb out all the tangles and spiff up the pink convertible again. A small caveat- BRATZ are not Barbie and I think they are ridiculous and look like "Ladies of the Night" to put it nicely. She will never play with those, nor will I ever buy them or their products.

Yes, Especially since Mattel won the lawsuit yesterday and Bratz are officially banned for ever. haha! My favorite Barbies were all the Malibu painted tan lined dolls. That and the plastic sunglasses that never stayed on. I love that new add campaign "Hey mom, wanna play Barbies?".

It's not as good as the theme song- "We girls can do anything, Right Barbie?"

I am in total agreement. I have other issues with stuff that little girls are into right now but I can't help but think if I am doing my job correctly as a mom then my little ladies won't find their identity in a doll. Mature or not Barbie will find a home at my house as well.
