Slick as Snot...
That is a saying that some say down south. I am using it today to refer to poor Will's current nasal discharge. I wipe his nose, suction his nose, spray saline up his nose, and then suction again. He has developed a wet, gaggy cough and this has caused him to puke a couple of times. No fever though. He is VERY clingy, and refuses to let me out of his sight for a moment. I spent 2 hours last night rocking and rocking him and trying to make sure that I didn't fall asleep and drop him. I finally put him back in his own bed at 3:30 am and let him cry for 15 minutes. He slept till 7 and Jason got up with him and let me sleep till 8:30. I hope to heck tonight goes better. Any hints from anyone on congestion and snot treatment would be greatly appreciated. I have the humidifier puffing away, and we're plugging away on the fluids. Any other ideas?

Sorry no ideas here. Sophie has a very similar nasal problem at the moment but she won't let me suction it so I just have to wipe it all day long. Hopefully last night was the worst and he will start getting better now. I'll keep you guys in my prayers.
I have a slightly cruel but very effective hold that I use when I need to suction him. You put them on their back between your legs on the floor with the head between your legs. Then you put their arms under your legs, so they are pinned down. That way you can do it quick and get them really suctioned well.
I also use that technique when suctioning. It has even worked on Zane recently. The only other thought is maybe some vicks or mentholatum on his chest. For some reason it seems to open up the breathing.
Have you ever used regular vicks, or do you have to buy the baby kind?
I've used real vicks and baby vicks. I don't know what the big difference is. I know this sounds weird but putting vicks on the bottom of the feet and then putting socks on seems to help especially if he's coughing. Patrick thinks I'm nuts but I'm not the only one to do this and it really did seem to make a difference for me. I also like vicks on the chest and back, my mom used to do that for me when I was little and I remember it being really soothing.Hope you are having a better night.
We did have a much better night. I put regular vicks on his chest and I tucked a washcloth I smeared with it under his sheet by his head. His room would clear out anybody's sinuses now! But he was much more comfortable. The cold seems to be more in his chest now, I am hoping he doesn't get croupy.
I have never used baby vicks and actually I always use mentholatum. Same principle though. I am glad that it seemed to work though!
