Lessons Learned

Today I made more baby food. However, I made a rookie mistake and did not set any kind of timer. The result is pictured here:

I am not quite sure how I will clean this.....

I did get about 6 trays of food made after this fiasco. I made sweet potato with veal, and pear/apple sauce. The pear apple turned out soooo good I wanted to eat it all up! I added a little cinnamon to spice it up a bit.

On a fun note, Will has begun to do this weird down-ward dog yoga move. It is pretty funny looking.

A Day of Doctors!

Today Will spent much of the day with Doctors. Maybe it will inspire him.... This morning was his 6 month exam, he was 22 pounds and 28.25 in long. He avoided the shots by having a low grade fever with his teething the last few days. Dr Rahman decided to give him a stay of execution. Tooth number 2 popped today so he is still pretty miserable. This evening my dear former boss Dr Sorber and his lovely wife Roz came to visit us on their way back to Wisconsin after dropping off their daughter Lilly at college. They both loved Will and I think they need to become Grandparents soon. We went out to a lovely dinner at a seafood place near our house. All in all a good day. Meanwhile we are preparing for the Hurricane that is supposed to hit us over the weekend. They sent out flyers today asking us to be prepared for the worst. Hopefully being this far inland will protect us from anything too serious!

Sitting Success!

For the last couple of days Will has been sitting so well, and he can now actually let go of his legs and play well without falling over. The blue bin he is sitting in is one of the toy bins I got at Target. I like these a lot and they are on wheels, which will be nice for when he has block sets and train sets. They are also stackable, which helps when you are living in such a small apartment.

Teething sucks!

Will finally broke through one tooth last night and the other is on the way. He woke up last night 2 times crying. He has been running a low grade temp, and seems kinda cranky. Who can blame him when you imagine what it must feel like to have a sharp little thing coming up out of your gum. He is getting up off his belly more and more, and is following us around the house. Today we went out shopping and I got him some cute clothes at gymboree. They were having a good sale and I had a 20% off coupon on my entire purchase plus they were doing gymbucks so I made a pretty good deal. Very cute stuff and hopefully it will fit for a while. He seems to be slowing down on his weight gain a little, and I hope so, because if he kept going at the rate he was he would be about 40 pounds at a year. I would have to go on the talkshow circuit and show him off as the world's fattest baby!

A HUGE SHRIMP!!!

Today we visited our nations capital once again. We enjoyed going to the National Aquarium which oddly enough is in the basement of the Commerce Building. It was small, they have a bigger one in Baltimore, but it did have a nice assortment of fish and sea life. They had a display of each of the protected sea sanctuaries and examples of the animals and plants that exist there. Will enjoyed looking at the fish, and liked the turtles a lot. After that we walked over to the Archives and saw some of the new exhibits of Americana. We walked over to the Smithsonian Castle and had lunch under some shady trees. We let Will play on a blanket on the grass and he got his first touch of nature, which you can see in the photo, he did not especially enjoy! After lunch we headed over to see the Jim Henson Muppet Exhibit that was touring through the Smithsonian. It was AMAZING! We were not allowed any pictures however, which was very sad. We saw the REAL Ernie and Bert Muppets, and Fraggles, and Rolf the Dog. There was a lot of fun Henson art work and films playing, and a lot of Sesame Street fun. Jason and I really enjoyed it and there were tons of kids all around us that were having a ball. They had a "Make your own Muppet" exhibit where you started with a blank face and there were parts to add on and a great puppet theater where you could be on TV. All in all a great Labor Day!
